TITLE: DIGITAL TECHNOLOGY SKILLS AND JOB PERFORMANCE OF LIBRARIANS IN HIGHER INSTITUTIONS IN ANAMBRA STATE, NIGERIA

ABSTRACT: The article examined digital technology skills and job performance of librarians in higher institutions in Anambra State, Nigeria. In order to achieve the foregoing, the descriptive survey research design was adopted and the population of the study are 238 which comprises of librarians and para-professional in higher institutions Anambra State were sampled using total enumeration sampling technique. Copies of the questionnaire were administered to the respondents in their respective institutions. The researcher employed the service of 6 research assistants (including the researcher himself) who personally administered the instrument in the institutions under study. The administered questionnaires were retrieved from the respondents on the same day after completion. This ensured a high response rate. The collected data was analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics. The findings showed that ICT skills of library staff in higher institution libraries were found to be inadequate, positive link exist between librarians the tested ICT skills and the job of providing information and other related services to patrons. The nature of this relationship is such that an adequate level of ICT skills in online search and use of OPAC (Online Public Access Catalogued) is needed for librarians to perform optimally. Based on the findings of the study, recommendations are made.
